The WRAL Freedom Balloon Fest held in Spring Forest Road Park in North Raleigh and Bennett Bunn Plantation in Zebulon last weekend was the first of its kind in 25 years.

Perfect weather and a big beautiful blue sky provided the backdrop for the colorful balloons.
The size of the crowds was clearly underestimated by the festival organizers. At Spring Forest Road Park tickets were sold out at 4:30 pm for the tethered balloon rides, which started 6:30 p.m. And, lines for each of the food trucks seem to stretch on forever. Event organizers learned a lot from the inaugural event and will make adjustments next year.
